  11. Can anyone give me any information about the type of modems
  12. in recent vintage Compaq Presarios, and a reliable method of
  13. disabling data compression/error correction in them? I work 
  14. at the help desk of a large public library with a dial-up
  15. public access catalogs and internet connection, and we have
  16. had no end of problems with people not being able to connect
  17. to us due to our (addmittedly old) modems not being able to
  18. handle data compression/error correction. Those people have 
  19. been able to connect if they turn those features off, but
  20. we haven't been able to determine any reliable means of doing
  21. this with Compaqs. We've tried various modem strings with
  22. little or no success. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
